Hadn’t seen that posted here, but it gets a turbo direct injected 1.3, with 177hp/200tq. The 2.4 is now standard, with the manual and 1.4 being dropped.

I would love to see them really go nuts with the Trailhawk, with some version of Alfa’s 2.0 engine that’s in the base Guilia. Otherwise, snooze.

About. Damn. Time.

This is what the Trailhawk needs soooooo bad.  Though 1.3 is a very little motor, I hope the turbo is a quick spooler.

200 lb/ft of torque is about what that thing needed. Hopefully the 9 speed doesn’t ruin it. I’ll have to drive one at the dealer I worked for.

here is a download link for the specs

peak torque at 1750 rpm.

Kinja'd!!!

On the other hand. 2.7 Bar peak boost (39 psi)

Kinja'd!!!

Thats a lot of boost.

This article says they will initially be mated to single scroll turbos, so probably pretty laggy.

peak torque is at 1750, so thats a good sign. Probably okay. Tapers off quick though. at hp peak at 5750 its only got 161 lbs-ft and probably drops like a rock after that. It wont feel much faster on the highway but the crawl ratio is 21.6:1 and at 1750 rpm (torque converter stall) there will be over 4000 lbs-ft torque at the ring gear. Double the 2.4 at the same revs. Thats going to be huge.

40ish hp at 1700 with the 2.4

~67 hp at that rpm with the 2.4.

That extra 1/3rd is going to make all the difference.

I’ll never forgive Daimler for draining Chrysler of the resources needed to give the JK a proper design that didn’t bore people to tears and lead to this unforgivable crime.

R eminds me - yesterday I went to see if I could sneak into my favorite bbq place for lunch but the parking lot is tiny and the only spots left were over a curb and in a field. regular short curb. Small mud puddle at the base. Lots of people park there. I was waiting to turn in for a Sante Fe because t he driver just couldn’t summon the courage, and when they did, they had the front wheel in the mud and the rear on the curb and it was stuck. He had to back up and take a run at it. it was NOT a big curb.

It’s all about the crawl ratio, if it’s low enough either will work well.

well...t he current renegade trailhawk has roughly the same crawl ratio and it doesn’t really work.  They can only do so much with a single speed awd system in terms of gear reduction.

They could do what Subaru does in A ustralia , and put the reduction gear at the flywheel before the transmission

The trouble is the subaru has a transmission, where the renegade has a transaxle. The Subaru system is actually after the flywheel on the input shaft. wouldn’t work for packaging. They could use the 2 speed system on the cherokee but it’ s a different supplier and a lot bigger and probably wouldn’t fit either.

Ah... that’s the new FCA “Global Small Engine”:

https://www.allpar.com/mopar/fours/GSE.html

As you can see, Allpar reported that it would have ~ 160HP.  S o if it actually is going to have 177HP, that’s better than expected. It’s fantastic considering it’s only 1.3L.

I forgot their engine faces the wrong way (sideways)...that does make it more challenging.

On a side note, I’ve considered ordering one of these Subaru transmission for the Outback....just not sure they can take enough abuse for the XT....

Not bad for what it is. Not sure I’d roll the dice on a first gen FCA engine.
